[SMM Analysis] Zimbabwe's Lithium Product Exports Top US$2.159 Billion in First Three Quarters of 2026

On Oct 12, the National Railway Administration issued the plan. It calls for green, intelligent upgrades: high-power, low-energy hybrid locomotives; smarter heavy-haul equipment; international technical standards; new freight cars, 120–200 km/h freight equipment, cold-chain/tank containers, and gauge-adaptive freight cars; upgraded intercity/suburban trains, 120–160 km/h diesel MU, 200–250 km/h power-concentrated MU, new passenger and tourist trains; flexible multi-source power supply, advanced catenary and intelligent traction equipment; and integrated train control/dispatch for conventional railways.

A senior official from the European Affairs Department of the Ministry of Commerce elaborated on the outcomes of the second meeting of the China-EU trade and investment consultation mechanism: The two sides reviewed the general guidance document on price commitments in the anti-subsidy case concerning EVs reached earlier, and the EU side will actively advance the procedures related to enterprise price commitments and reviews in the EV case. The two sides looked ahead positively to future cooperation, believing that China and the EU have enormous potential for cooperation in areas such as new energy, artificial intelligence, trade in services, the digital economy, and green and low-carbon development, and can further explore new opportunities and expand new space. The two sides agreed to explore two-way investment cooperation. China, as always, welcomes EU enterprises to invest and do business in China and will continue to improve the business environment, while also expecting the EU side to create a fair, transparent, and predictable business environment for Chinese enterprises, effectively safeguard their legitimate rights and interests, and boost their confidence and expectations for investing and operating in Europe.

The Beijing Municipal People's Government issued the Plan for Deepening the Development of Beijing as an International Consumption Center During the 15th Five-Year Plan Period, which mentions intensifying efforts to promote NEVs. It will further improve the used car circulation system, facilitate used car transactions, and promote the standardized and large-scale development of trading markets. It will optimize the supply of services such as maintenance and insurance, and develop the automotive aftermarket in an orderly manner, including vehicle modification, leasing, motorsports, and RV camping. It will accelerate pilot reforms in automobile circulation and consumption, and cultivate new growth points in automobile consumption.

Per MIIT data and customs statistics, China exported 3.69 billion lithium-ion batteries in Jan-Aug 2026, up 22.9% YoY. Value-added output of the electronics manufacturing industry grew 15.7% YoY, with revenue up 20.1% to RMB 12.8 trillion and total profit up 110% to RMB 847.5 billion. The strong battery exports reflect sustained overseas demand for power and energy storage batteries.

LONGi's Suzhou base officially started production on Oct 9, covering containerized storage, C&I storage and control cabinets. Its grid-scale integration line will have 31GWh annualized capacity from October, expanding to 50GWh in 2027, plus over 10,000 C&I units per year by end-October. LONGi acquired control of Jingko Energy (about 62% voting rights) in Nov 2025; cumulative storage orders exceeded 3GWh in H1 2026, with a 6GWh shipment target for the full year.

Sinomine’s Bikita Minerals in Zimbabwe plans to raise its annual spodumene processing capacity from about 2 million mt to 3 million mt by Q2 2027, a 50% increase. Sinomine has invested over $320 million in spodumene and petalite beneficiation at Bikita, and total investment is expected to reach about $900 million by the end of 2027. A lithium sulphate plant is scheduled for completion in July 2027. It will let Bikita process lithium concentrate into lithium sulphate, an intermediate product used to make battery materials. Bikita’s lithium-bearing mineral resources have grown from about 29 million mt to over 218 million mt since Sinomine’s acquisition, extending projected mine life by more than 15 years.
