China's Ministry of Finance, General Administration of Customs and State Taxation Administration announced that, effective September 1, 2026, consumption tax policies for certain battery products will be adjusted in phases. Under the new policy, sodium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, fuel cells, and photovoltaic batteries including perovskite, tandem and gallium arsenide cells will be exempt from consumption tax.

Putailai expects its first-half 2026 net profit attributable to shareholders to reach 14-15 billion yuan, up 32.66%-42.14% YoY. The company said global energy transition continued to drive demand for electric vehicles and energy storage, while exports of EV, energy storage and battery-related products remained strong. Against a backdrop of tight upstream material and equipment supply and lagging battery supply chain capacity expansion, shipments of the company's major lithium battery products increased during the period.

Zhenyu Technology expects its first-half 2026 net profit to rise 98.72%-117.65% YoY to 4.2-4.6 billion yuan. The company attributed the growth to strong demand from the lithium battery market, particularly the energy storage battery segment, which drove sales growth. It also cited the gradual ramp-up of new motor core capacity, higher capacity utilization, increased automation, and cost optimization as key contributors to improved profitability.

In June 2026, China's total sulphur imports amounted to approximately 195,000 metric tons (mt), down 27.3% month-on-month and down 81.1% year-on-year, originated primarily from Canada, South Korea, Japan, the UAE, Brunei, Singapore, and Kazakhstan.
China's total sulphur exports amounted to approximately 238 mt, down 56.5% month-on-month, with major destinations including Myanmar, Indonesia, Vietnam, and North Korea.
China's total sulphuric acid imports amounted to approximately 3,000 mt (reference value, subject to final customs data), sourced primarily from Taiwan, China, South Korea, Japan, Germany, and the United States.
China's total sulphuric acid exports amounted to approximately 16,000 mt, down 84.5% month-on-month and down 96.0% year-on-year, with major destinations including Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Tanzania, and Togo.

China imported around 10,961 physical tons of cobalt hydrometallurgical intermediates in June 2026, surging 324% month-on-month and falling 42% year-on-year, of which imports from the Democratic Republic of the Congo stood at approximately 10,815 physical tons, up 423% month-on-month and down 43% year-on-year.
The average import price of cobalt hydrometallurgical intermediates was USD 16,352 per physical ton in June 2026, dropping 1.54% month-on-month.
Around 7,561 physical tons of imported intermediates entered Zhejiang and Guangdong via logistics goods under special customs supervision zones, accounting for 69% of total imports; general trade registered about 2,849 physical tons, making up 26%; and processing trade with imported materials reached roughly 550 physical tons, taking a 5% share.

China's imports of cobalt hydrometallurgical intermediate products jumped 324% month-on-month in June 2026

China imported about 1,120 tons of unwrought cobalt in June 2026, rising 66% month-on-month and 105% year-on-year.
By source country for electrolytic cobalt imports in June, the top three suppliers were Indonesia, Russia and Madagascar, with import volumes of 476 tons, 293 tons and 148 tons respectively.
Despite a sharp drop in domestic electrolytic cobalt prices in June and a fully closed import-export arbitrage window, weak overseas demand for electrolytic cobalt prompted some foreign traders to ship material to China, driving a notable jump in import volumes.
The average import price of unwrought cobalt hit USD 52,228 per ton in June 2026, down 4.27% month-on-month.
Cumulative imports from January to June 2026 totalled 7,709 tons, climbing 118% year-on-year.
